The EU will soon be the first global market to demonstrate how importing hydrogen can help accelerate decarbonization and promote energy security – if it can mobilize additional support for procurement and end use while strategically deploying green fuel to areas where it’s most needed. Green hydrogen is essential for Europe to decarbonize heavy industry and transport. If the EU succeeds in procuring sufficient green hydrogen to meet its climate targets, it will send a signal to the international market that hydrogen imports have the power to accelerate decarbonization and heighten energy security.
