Like many of the EU climate policies, European hydrogen policy is currently overly regulatory in nature, rather than a more market driven approach with technological neutrality. Developing a hydrogen economy is one of the critical requirements for the achievement of the 2050 Net Zero target as well as in the consideration of the interim 2040 target.
