Australian hydrogen strategy & status 2022

Most of Australia’s largest trading partners, covering over 90 per cent of Australia’s exports by value10, have committed to achieving net zero emissions by around mid-century. Many of these trading partners do not share the same attributes which make Australia ideally suited to hydrogen production, yet their reliance on hydrogen is likely to be significant given the extent of their decarbonisation ambition. This presents an opportunity for Australia to establish new hydrogen-based trade arrangements with these countries, addressing both our own emissions reduction targets and contributing to the decarbonisation of other country’s economies.
